Lutheran Church of Budavár

A quiet Lutheran church from 1895 in Budapest's UNESCO-protected Castle District, near the Vienna Gate Square.

The Lutheran Church in the Castle District is one of the few Protestant churches in Budapest's historic Buda Castle quarter. It was built in 1895 to plans by architect Mór Kallina and stands at Táncsics Mihály utca 28, at the corner of Bécsi kapu tér — the Vienna Gate Square, one of the most beautiful squares in the Castle District. The church combines elements of historicism and neo-Gothic style, blending harmoniously into the medieval streetscape of the 1st District. The interior is simple and bright, preserving the Lutheran tradition of plain worship. The Castle District is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Budapest's most visited neighbourhoods.
