Südstadt
Cologne

The Friesenviertel, centered on Friesenstrasse along Cologne's inner ring road, is the city's most densely packed bar and pub district — more concentrated than the tourist-heavy Altstadt. Gründerzeit tenement buildings with stucco facades provide the backdrop for a nightlife scene that kicks off in the early evening and runs through to the early hours on weekends. The neighborhood has been Cologne's go-to after-dark destination for students and young professionals since the 1980s, maintaining a local Veedel character alongside its reputation for bar-hopping. Draft Kölsch in old corner pubs coexists with cocktail bars and small clubs within a few blocks.
Compact nightlife quarter between the Ring and Stadtgarten — cocktail bars, brewhouses and late-night snack stalls.
