Habsburgwarte

The Habsburgwarte is a 27-metre stone lookout tower set just below the summit of the Hermannskogel, at 544 metres the highest hill in Vienna. It was built in 1888 by the Austrian Touring Club and named for the ruling imperial house. Modeled on a medieval keep with crenellations and rough quarrystone walls, it belongs to a late-nineteenth-century tradition of romantic mock-castles dotted across the Vienna Woods. Today the tower is a popular goal for walkers in the northern Wienerwald. The spiral staircase ends at an open platform with views over the Danube to the Little Carpathians, across to Bratislava, and on clear days as far as the Schneeberg.
