Hadrian's Gate

Hadrian's Gate is a three-arched Roman triumphal arch built to commemorate Emperor Hadrian's visit to the city of Attaleia in 130 AD — one of only a handful of Roman monuments in Anatolia that retains its original coffered ceilings across all three passageways. Corinthian columns flank the arches, and inscriptions uncovered during 20th-century restoration directly record the emperor's arrival, making it a rare first-hand epigraphic document of an imperial journey. The gate marks the main entrance to Antalya's old quarter, Kaleiçi, and transitions from a busy daytime tourist thoroughfare to a dramatically lit evening landmark that anchors the surrounding streetscape of Ottoman-era timber houses and Roman-period walls.
