Köprüçay River

The Köprüçay — known in antiquity as the Eurymedon — rises in the Taurus Mountains and flows through the Pamphylian plain of southern Turkey before reaching the Mediterranean near Antalya. Its mouth was the site of the Battle of the Eurymedon in 466/465 BC, where the Athenian general Cimon delivered a decisive double defeat to Persian land and naval forces, a turning point in the Greco-Persian Wars. Along its course the river passes the ruins of Aspendos, one of Anatolia's best-preserved ancient cities. Today the Köprüçay is best known for whitewater rafting through forested gorges on its upper reaches, with calmer stretches downstream offering riverside walking through unspoiled riparian landscape.
