Helsinki Icehall

Helsingin Jaeaehalli is Finland's principal indoor ice arena, set in the Toeoeloe sports district next to the Olympic Stadium. Opened in 1966, it seats around 8,200 spectators. For decades it served as home rink for clubs HIFK and Jokerit and hosted the IIHF World Championships in 1974, 1982, 1991, 1997 and 2003, along with the annual Karjala Tournament. Beyond hockey, the hall is a major concert venue: Frank Sinatra, David Bowie and Iron Maiden have all played here, while Finnish bands such as Hanoi Rocks treated it as a home stage. Architecturally it is a restrained example of Finnish post-war modernism, with an oval steel-truss roof and deep eaves. Today visitors come mainly for Liiga games, international tours and family events such as Disney on Ice; an upper-floor cafe overlooks the stadium grounds.
