Postwar Modernism
The Ivan Lazarov House Museum in Sofia preserves the studio and artistic estate of one of Bulgaria's most significant 20th-century sculptors. Lazarov (1889–1952) trained in Munich and Vienna before becoming a defining figure of figurative sculpture in Sofia, whose public spaces still display several of his works. Founded in 1970 in his former home and workspace, the museum offers an intimate look at his tools, sketches, and finished pieces. Access is unusual: the museum is otherwise closed and opens only during a handful of designated days each month across a fixed annual schedule — making it a rare find for visitors who time their trip accordingly.
