II. Murad Külliyesi Sultan Türbeleri

The Külliye of Sultan Murad II is an early Ottoman complex in Bursa's Muradiye quarter, housing the türbe — mausoleum — of the sultan himself alongside tombs of several royal family members and court figures. Murad II, who reigned from 1421 to 1451, commissioned the complex and chose it as his own burial site; unusually, his tomb has an open oculus in the dome, allowing rain to fall directly onto his sarcophagus — a deliberate act of humility ordered by the sultan himself. The complex represents the restrained architectural aesthetic of the early Ottoman period, before the elaborate imperial grandeur of later centuries. Today it functions as a quiet pilgrimage site and one of the best-preserved early Ottoman ensembles in Bursa.
