Britzer Garten

The Britzer Garten, at around 90 hectares one of Berlin's largest landscape parks, opened on 8 July 1989 as the sustainable after-use of the 1985 Federal Garden Show. Unlike most BUGA legacy sites the curated planting plan has been preserved here - the rose garden, Karl-Foerster perennial borders and the rhododendron valley are programmed by season. A particular feature is the narrow-gauge Britzer museum railway that runs through the park in summer. In early April some 350,000 tulips flower around the Britzer See, in autumn it is the dahlias that draw Berliners. Entry is charged - which keeps the park at the pleasant level of half-empty paths, very unusual for a Berlin park.
