Iziko Museums of South Africa

Iziko Museums of South Africa is a national network of eleven institutions spread across Cape Town, collectively covering natural history, social history, and fine art. Many of the buildings are colonial-era landmarks in their own right, listed as national heritage sites and forming notable anchors in the city's urban fabric. The South African Museum holds extensive fossil and ethnological collections, while the South African National Gallery spans work from the 17th century to the present. Together the institutions offer one of the most complete public records of South Africa's layered history — from precolonial societies through the apartheid years to the post-1994 democratic era. Open daily 10:00–17:00; admission fees apply.
