Keyenberg Aussichtspunkt

A roughly six-metre steel scaffold tower with a spiral staircase sits on the rim of the Garzweiler open-cast lignite mine near Keyenberg — a village partly demolished to make way for ongoing coal extraction. The structure is makeshift and noticeably unsteady according to visitors; sturdy footwear is advisable given the dirt-track access road. From the top, you look directly into the open pit and can spot bucket-wheel excavators at work on clear days. Walking further along the embankment reveals even more open sightlines over the mining edge. As the excavation expands, the vantage point is likely to become more prominent.
