Alte Aller

The Alte Aller refers to the partially silted ox-bow remnants of the Aller river between Verden and Baden in Lower Saxony. These quiet backwaters form when a river shifts its course and cuts off former meanders — a natural geomorphological process typical of North German lowland rivers. The shallow banks and still water provide habitat for waterfowl and floodplain vegetation, making it a quiet spot for nature observation.
