Myyrmäki church

Myyrmaeki Church sits in a northwest suburb of Vantaa and counts as one of the key works of Finnish modern sacred architecture. It was built between 1980 and 1984 to designs by Juha Leiviskae as a full parish centre next to the suburban train station, with community spaces, a library and the priest's flat. Leiviskae stacked narrow white blades and lightwells so that daylight enters from the sides and bounces off hidden reflectors, which is why the building is often called the "Church of Light." The project earned him the 1995 Carlsberg Architectural Prize. The cube-like pulpit stands against a surprisingly warm bright back wall, and the acoustics are so clean that the church is regularly used for chamber concerts and recordings.
