Calder House
Country House
The Kirk of Calder — formally Mid Calder Parish Church — is a late-Gothic Church of Scotland church in the West Lothian village of Mid Calder, dedicated to St John the Baptist. Its well-preserved medieval fabric earned it Category A listed status in 1971, the highest tier of heritage protection in Scotland. The church carries particular weight in Scottish Reformation history: reformer John Knox is said to have preached here, giving it a notable place in the early spread of Scottish Presbyterianism. It remains an active parish church today, combining centuries of architectural continuity with an ongoing congregation.
