Klimt-Villa

The Klimt Villa at Feldmuehlgasse 11 in Vienna's 13th district of Hietzing contains, at its core, the last studio used by Gustav Klimt, from 1911 until his death in 1918. Klimt rented the ground floor of what was then a modest garden house and set up three working rooms with a small front garden; many of his late female portraits, including Adele Bloch-Bauer II, were painted here. After his death the building was extended and converted into a villa in the early 1920s. Following decades as a private home and then a school, the studio rooms have been reconstructed from archival photographs and have been open to the public since 2012. Visitors today walk through small rooms with replica furniture and reproductions; it is more about atmosphere than original paintings.
