Landungsbrücken

Hamburg's Landungsbrücken is a 700-meter floating pier complex on the north bank of the Elbe, anchored by a row of Jugendstil pavilions and clock towers built between 1907 and 1910 under Kaiser Wilhelm II. Its historical weight is immense: between 1850 and 1939, more than five million emigrants passed through Hamburg on their way to the Americas, many departing from this very quayside. The floating structure itself is an engineering solution to the Elbe's tidal range of up to four meters, making it one of the few floating terminal stations in the world. Today, harbor tour boats and ferries to Finkenwerder and Helgoland depart directly from the piers, while the open waterfront offers unobstructed views west to the Elbphilharmonie and east to the working container port.
