Lokomotivfabrik Floridsdorf

The Floridsdorf Locomotive Factory was one of the most important locomotive works in Central Europe between 1869 and 1969, located in Vienna's 21st district. Founded in the Gruenderzeit boom, it delivered more than 5,000 steam and later electric locomotives to the railways of Austria-Hungary and its successor states. The factory was particularly known for building Abt-system rack steam locomotives, such as those for the Schafbergbahn. After 1945 it was under Soviet administration, was absorbed into Simmering-Graz-Pauker in 1959 and stopped production in 1969. Most halls were demolished, but a few listed buildings still recall the works in the urban fabric, supplemented by displays at the Strasshof railway museum.
