Lubomirski Palace

The Lubomirski Palace is a Neoclassical aristocratic palace at Plac Zelaznej Bramy on the western edge of central Warsaw's Srodmiescie district, originally built in 1712 and remodelled several times during the 18th century. It is one of the few pre-war Warsaw palaces that survived the Second World War, though damaged. It became famous through a spectacular relocation: in 1970 the entire building was rotated by 74 degrees to serve as the axial closure of the restored Saxon Axis, which runs from the Saxon Garden to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The rotation remains one of the largest building moves ever undertaken in Europe. Today the palace houses offices of the Polish Chamber of Commerce; the facade is freely visible from outside.
