Geymüllerschlössel

The Geymuellerschloessel in Vienna's 18th district of Waehring is a small neoclassical summer mansion from 1808, built as a country house for the Viennese banker Johann Heinrich Geymueller in what was then the outer suburb where Poetzleinsdorf met the wine country. Today it is a branch of the Vienna MAK (Museum of Applied Arts) and holds one of the most important collections of Biedermeier furniture, clocks and domestic culture in the German-speaking world. The roughly 200 Viennese long-case clocks are a particular specialty; some of them are actually wound up and run during guided tours. The charm of the house lies in its rooms being furnished with their original 1820s furniture exactly as the bourgeoisie of the time actually lived - no museum spectacle, but quiet, almost intimate domestic life. Open only from May to November, weekends only.
