Also known as: Pomnik Małego Powstańca, Little Insurrectionist, Pomnik Malego Powstanca
Maly Powstaniec, the Little Insurgent Monument, stands against the outer wall of Warsaw's Old Town and commemorates the children who fought and died as messengers, medics and couriers during the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. The bronze figure stands about 150 centimetres tall and shows a boy in an oversized steel helmet with a submachine gun, almost swallowed by adult-sized gear. The work was created as a student piece by sculptor Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz in 1946 and was finally cast in bronze and placed at its current location on the city wall by the Polish Scouting Association ZHP in 1983. Today it is one of the most emotionally direct stops on the Old Town circuit: scout troops leave flowers, school groups pause, and visitors usually linger longer than planned, because the child's posture and oversized helmet land immediately.
