Birthplace of Frédéric Chopin

Frederic Chopin's birthplace in Zelazowa Wola, a village in the Sochaczew commune some 50 km west of Warsaw, is now a museum and outpost of the Warsaw Chopin Museum. Chopin was born here in 1810 while his father worked as a private tutor in the Skarbek manor. The actual birthplace is a modest annex, set up as a memorial from 1931 with period furniture and family portraits. Surrounding it lies a seven-hectare landscape park along the Utrata river, laid out from the 1930s. On summer weekends Polish pianists perform open-air recitals of Chopin's works. It is a pilgrimage site for classical music fans.
