Marina Barrage

The Marina Barrage is a tidal dam completed in 2008 at the confluence of five rivers in southern Singapore, stretching across the Marina Channel to create the Marina Reservoir — the city-state's first freshwater reservoir in the heart of the urban core. Beyond water supply, the structure doubles as a flood-control system, with a bank of pumps that drain excess stormwater during heavy rainfall to protect low-lying neighborhoods. The flat rooftop lawn above the dam has become a go-to spot for kite flying and weekend picnics, and the surrounding waterfront offers one of the clearest unobstructed panoramas of the downtown skyline and Marina Bay.
