The Helix Bridge

The Helix Bridge is a 280-metre pedestrian span in Singapore's Marina Bay whose structure of two intertwined steel spirals echoes the shape of a DNA double helix — an architectural symbol of life and renewal. Opened on 24 April 2010, it connects Marina Centre with Marina South across the Marina Channel and was designed by Australian firm Cox Architecture with Arup engineers; the steel tubes carry the letters A, T, C and G of the DNA bases as projected lighting. Four cantilevered viewing platforms offer head-on views of Marina Bay Sands, the Esplanade theatre and the city's after-dark skyline drama. Visitors come above all at night, when the helix glows purple and green from within; the bridge is part of a continuous pedestrian loop around the entire Marina Bay.
