Kotroni Military Airfield (Marathon)

Greek Navy helicopter base with one of the world's shortest runways, situated near the historic Marathon battlefield.

Kotroni Airfield is located west of Marathonas in the Attica region of Greece, serving primarily as a base for the Hellenic Navy Helicopter Command. The airport is notable for having one of the shortest runways in the world, making it unsuitable for conventional fixed-wing aircraft and dedicated almost entirely to helicopter operations. The runway surface is marked with multiple helipad signs, and around 16 helicopter parking positions are available. The base is not open to the public but represents an unusual piece of modern military infrastructure set against the historically significant landscape of the Marathon plain.
