Senhora do Monte Viewpoint

The Miradouro da Senhora do Monte sits atop the Colina de Sant'Ana, the highest of Lisbon's seven hills, offering an unobstructed panorama stretching from Castelo de São Jorge across the Baixa to the 25 de Abril Bridge. The small baroque chapel that gives the viewpoint its name was built in the 18th century and is one of the rare structures in the neighborhood to survive the catastrophic 1755 earthquake largely intact — a remarkable fact given the near-total destruction that swept the rest of the city. Unlike the busier Portas do Sol or Santa Luzia viewpoints, this spot remains largely the domain of locals from the Alfama district, who gather here especially during the golden hour before sunset. No souvenir vendors, no queues — just Lisbon spread out below.
