National Stadium
Beijing
Also known as: Beijing Olympic Park
The Olympic Green is the Olympic park of Beijing, laid out for the 2008 Summer Games in the north of the city along the central north-south axis. Around 1,135 hectares hold the most iconic venues of those Games: the Bird's Nest National Stadium by Herzog and de Meuron, the cubic Water Cube National Aquatics Center, and the Indoor Stadium. At the opening ceremony torchbearer Li Ning ran horizontally around the stadium wall on cables here. Today the Olympic Green is a public park with promenades, links to the Forest Park, urban rail and a heavily photographed backdrop for family outings. Several of its halls were reused for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
