Capital Indoor Stadium
Beijing
Also known as: Beijing National Indoor Stadium
The National Indoor Stadium on Olympic Green in northern Beijing is an 18,000-seat multipurpose arena built for the 2008 Summer Games to host artistic gymnastics, trampoline and team handball. Designed by a Chinese-German consortium under Glockenton Yang, the curved roof references the traditional Chinese folding fan and sits a short walk from the Bird's Nest stadium and the Water Cube. Wheelchair basketball was played here during the 2008 Summer Paralympics. For the 2022 Winter Olympics the venue was converted into an ice hockey arena, hosting the women's tournament and the men's preliminary round. It now hosts pop concerts, exhibition tennis matches and ice shows; the annual Beijing International Sports and Leisure Festival is held here too. The easiest approach is Beijing Metro line 8 to Olympic Sports Center station.
