Stadtgarten Aachen

Aachen's Stadtgarten is a listed landscape park of around 20 hectares assembled from three historically distinct areas: a hospital garden laid out in 1852, a Kurpark redesign begun in 1916, and a former Protestant cemetery incorporated after 1945. This layered origin gives the park an unusually varied character — sweeping open lawns alternate with shaded alleys of mature trees and quieter, enclosed corners. The central Wingertsberg hill, at 193 m above sea level, offers elevated views across the surrounding city. Today the park serves as Aachen's main inner-city green retreat, frequented by joggers, families, and anyone seeking a break from the adjacent university district.
