Chaoyang Park
Beijing
Also known as: Mokotow Field
Pole Mokotowskie covers about 70 hectares and is the second-largest park in inner Warsaw, lying between the districts of Mokotow, Ochota and Srodmiescie. The site has carried the name since the early nineteenth century, when it served as the garrison's parade ground; in May 1926 it became a battlefield during Jozef Pilsudski's May Coup, as government troops and Pilsudski supporters fought across it. It later did duty as an airfield before being landscaped from the 1970s onwards into today's park of ponds, cycle paths and meadows. On warm days it works as the green living room of young Warsaw, with joggers, dog walkers, picnics and open-air festivals in summer.
