This static display of an RT-20 missile — Soviet GRAU index 8K99, NATO designation SS-15 Scrooge — is a rare surviving example of a Cold War-era mobile intercontinental ballistic missile, exhibited outdoors in Dnipro. The city, known as Dnipropetrovsk until 2016, was for decades the classified epicentre of Soviet rocket engineering: the Yuzhnoye design bureau developed ICBMs here whose existence the West could only infer from satellite imagery. The RT-20P was a precursor to the RS-12M Topol lineage but never entered operational service, making surviving hardware genuinely uncommon. As an artefact it sits at the intersection of nuclear deterrence doctrine and Cold War industrial secrecy — an understated monument to a weapon system built to be never used.
