Aberdyfi Castle

Aberdyfi Castle — also known as Domen Las or Abereinion Castle — is an almost entirely vanished medieval motte fortification in Ceredigion, Wales, founded around 1156. Despite sharing its name with the coastal village of Aberdyfi, the site lies roughly 9 km to the east, on the left bank of the River Dovey at its confluence with the River Einion. What remains today are low earthwork platforms, legally protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The isolated riverside location makes this a site for archaeology enthusiasts and students of Welsh medieval history rather than casual visitors — a quiet, barely legible trace of 12th-century Norman-era territorial control in mid-Wales.
