Adelaide Botanic Gardens

The Adelaide Botanic Gardens cover 51 hectares just northeast of the city centre and rank among Australia's foremost public garden estates. Founded in 1857 during the colonial era, the grounds were laid out in the Victorian tradition of combining scientific collection with public parkland — the State Herbarium of South Australia, still housed here, serves as an active botanical research institution. Glasshouses sheltering tropical and rainforest species complement the open lawns and heritage tree plantings. Admission is free, with seasonal opening hours running from 07:15 on weekdays.
