Belair National Park

Belair National Park sits just 13 kilometres from central Adelaide, offering 835 hectares of eucalyptus bushland and native wildlife on the city's southern fringe. Gazetted in January 1891, it was South Australia's first national park and remains the second-oldest in the entire country — and among the ten oldest in the world — established at a time when colonial development was already placing pressure on the land surrounding Adelaide. The park shelters kangaroos, echidnas, and a broad range of native bird species across its mallee scrub and open woodland. Walking trails of varying length wind through the reserve, and well-maintained picnic areas make it a popular weekend destination for Adelaide families. Its combination of accessibility and genuine natural character is rare for a park so close to a major city.
