Aegidien Gate Square

Aegidientorplatz — known locally as simply "Aegi" — is a busy traffic square in central Hannover, with the eponymous U-Bahn station running directly beneath it. The square takes its name from the Aegidientor, one of Hannover's medieval city gates that stood on this spot until its demolition in 1780. Today it functions primarily as a transit interchange rather than a destination in its own right, with little remaining trace of its medieval namesake visible in the streetscape.
