Aeschenschwibbogen

The Aeschenschwibbogen was a small medieval city gate in Basel, forming part of the inner city wall. It preceded the later Aeschen Gate, which was built further out as the city expanded. Demolished in 1841, it is one of the historical Basel fortifications that fell victim to 19th-century urban growth. Only scattered remnants of the inner city wall survived; the Aeschenschwibbogen is today known primarily through historical sources and old city maps.
