Matecaña International Airport
Airport
Mariscal Sucre International Airport opened on 20 February 2013, replacing Quito's old city-center airport that had operated since 1960 but was considered unsafe and impossible to expand due to its dense urban surroundings. The new facility sits about 18 kilometers northeast of downtown Quito on the Tababela plateau, offering longer runways capable of handling wide-body aircraft. At over 2,400 meters above sea level, it serves as Ecuador's sole international hub and the primary gateway into the capital.
