Suvarnabhumi Airport — the name means "Golden Land" in Sanskrit — is Bangkok's main airport and one of Southeast Asia's busiest hubs. It lies about 30 kilometers east of the city center in Samut Prakan Province and opened in 2006 after decades of planning and construction. The futuristic terminal building, designed by architect Helmut Jahn, covers over 563,000 square meters, making it one of the world's largest airport buildings. Enormous glass facades, high ceilings, and a view of dozens of aircraft simultaneously make a layover here an experience in itself.
