Jakarta's second airport — close to the city center, shared military-civilian use, named after an independence hero

Halim Perdanakusuma Airport is Jakarta's second airport, located about 13 kilometers southeast of the city center — much closer to downtown than the main Soekarno-Hatta airport. Originally established as a military airfield and named after Indonesian air force officer Abdul Halim Perdanakusuma, who died in the 1947 war of independence, it is today jointly used by the military and civilian airlines. For travelers, this means shorter transfers to the center and often more relaxed operations than the crowded Soekarno-Hatta.
