Demolished medieval city gate in Kleinbasel, once part of Basel historic city walls

The Bläsitor was a city gate in Kleinbasel and part of the medieval Basel city walls. It was named after the St Blasien monastery, whose administrator had his estate nearby. Together with the Riehentor, it formed one of the two entrances to Kleinbasel. Under the Basel City Expansion Act of 1859, which ordered the demolition of the inner city walls, the gate was torn down in 1867. Almost nothing remains at the site today, though the name survives in Basel's urban history as a reminder of the medieval fortifications.
