Old Temple of Athena

Before the Parthenon stood the archaic Temple of Athena Polias - until the Persians burned it down in 480 BC. The foundations on top of a Mycenaean palace remain visible today and tell the story of the oldest Athens, the city that preceded the Classical golden age.
