Amarna Tomb 5

Tomb 5 in the Amarna necropolis is the rock-cut burial chamber of Pentu, one of the most prominent figures at the court of Pharaoh Akhenaten in the 14th century BCE. Pentu held the rare dual titles of First Servant of the Aten in the House of the Aten at Akhetaten and Chief Physician — combining religious administration with medicine in a way that reflects the singular character of Akhenaten's revolutionary court. The tomb lies among the Southern Tombs of Akhetaten, the short-lived capital city Akhenaten founded and that was abandoned shortly after his death. Wall reliefs depicting Pentu in adoration of the Aten solar disk showcase the distinct, naturalistic art style of the Amarna period, sharply unlike any other Egyptian dynasty. The site is accessible as part of the broader Tell el-Amarna archaeological area.
