Ambalatungan, also known as Binuluan, is a volcanic complex rising from the Cordillera Central in northern Luzon, among the more remote highland terrain in the Philippines. Its edifice is built primarily from dacitic lava, distinguishing it geologically from the basaltic volcanoes more common along the island arc. The crater hosts active hydrothermal features — hot springs and sulfuric fumaroles signal that the system remains geologically restless. For trekkers and mountaineers, the approach through dense Cordillera forest is demanding and largely trail-unmarked; local guides are strongly recommended for any summit attempt.
