Ancohuma

Ancohuma rises to 6,425 metres as the second-highest peak of the Cordillera Real and third-highest mountain in Bolivia, sitting east of Lake Titicaca within the Illampú massif — sometimes referred to collectively as Nevado de Sorata after the small town of Sorata on its western slopes. Its permanent glaciation makes the summit a serious high-altitude mountaineering objective requiring ice-climbing technique and careful acclimatisation, typically approached via Sorata as a base. In Andean cosmology, peaks of this scale are revered as Apus, mountain spirits to whom local communities still make offerings. On clear days the summit plateau commands sweeping views across the Altiplano, Lake Titicaca, and the ice-capped neighbours of the Cordillera Real.
