Antisana

Antisana is a glaciated stratovolcano in Ecuador's Eastern Cordillera, rising to approximately 5,758 meters — the country's fourth-highest peak. Its broad summit hosts four distinct spires and a large caldera ringed by glacier tongues, with younger blocky lava flows scarring its flanks as evidence of relatively recent volcanic activity. The only clearly dated eruption occurred between 1801 and 1802, when lava poured from a vent on the north-northeast flank; the volcano has been quiet since but is not considered extinct. Reaching the summit requires glacier travel and technical climbing experience. The surrounding Antisana Ecological Reserve, one of Ecuador's most important páramo ecosystems, shelters Andean condors and serves as a base for multi-day trekking routes through high-altitude grasslands.
