The Anna Seiler Fountain stands on Marktgasse in front of the Käfigturm and belongs to Bern's celebrated group of 16th-century figural fountains. It commemorates Anna Seiler, who in 1354 founded the first Bern hospital on the Insel — making her one of the most significant civic benefactors of medieval Switzerland. Carved from limestone and erected in 1545, it is classified as Swiss cultural heritage of national importance (Class A). Today it sits along one of Bern's busiest shopping streets, part of the old town's medieval water-supply network that still visually defines the arcaded city.
