Anshan Persia

Anshan was one of the principal cities of the Elamite civilization, situated in the Kur river plain of what is now Iran's Fars Province, roughly 50 kilometers north of Shiraz. Settlement traces date back to around 5500 BCE, placing it among the earliest continuously inhabited sites in the ancient Near East. Alongside Susa, Anshan formed one of the two dynastic heartlands of Elam — a dual kingship immortalized in royal titles such as 'King of Anshan and Susa.' The site is identified with the archaeological mound of Tall-e Malyan, much of which remains unexcavated. For visitors traveling through Fars Province, it offers rare, largely unmediated contact with one of humanity's oldest urban cultures.
