Abbas Mirza Mosque, Yerevan

The Abbas Mirza Mosque was a Shia mosque in Yerevan completed in the early 19th century under Persian rule, built in the architectural idiom of the Qajar dynasty. It was named after Abbas Mirza, the Qajar crown prince and military reformer who played a central role in the Russo-Persian Wars. During the Soviet period the mosque was demolished, along with many other religious structures across the South Caucasus. Its erasure is emblematic of the broader Soviet campaign to remove Islamic and Persian cultural traces from Armenian territory. No physical remains exist today.
