Schloß Harbke

Schloss Harbke in the municipality of Harbke, Saxony-Anhalt, was built upon the foundations of a medieval round keep and served for centuries as the ancestral seat of the von Veltheim noble family, who held and expanded the estate from the 14th century onward. After World War II the property was expropriated under the Soviet occupation zone's land reform, stripping it of the care that had sustained it, and the castle gradually fell into ruin. Today only the shell of the structure survives, set within the remnants of the historic Schlosspark — an atmospheric combination of overgrown grounds and crumbling facades. The ensemble holds Kulturdenkmal status as a protected monument, though comprehensive restoration efforts have yet to materialize.
