Arsenalna

Arsenalna station sits 105.5 metres below the streets of Kyiv, making it the third-deepest metro station in the world. Opened in 1960 during the Soviet era, its exceptional depth was an engineering necessity: the station had to pass beneath a steep plateau between the city center and the Dnipro riverbank, leaving no shallower option. The two escalator shafts that carry passengers to the surface are among the longest in the world — the ride up takes more than three minutes. Architecturally the station is plainly utilitarian, a sober Soviet-functional interior with no ornamental flourishes. For visitors the descent is primarily a physical experience: the pressure change, the rumbling escalator, and the sheer elapsed time underground make the 105-metre depth genuinely felt rather than merely noted.
