Kyiv Arsenal

Tsarist armaments factory (1764), site of 1918 Arsenal Uprising, now a cultural centre in Kyiv.

The Kyiv Arsenal is one of Ukraine's oldest factories, founded in 1764 as a Tsarist armaments plant. Historically significant for the Arsenal Uprising of January 1918, when Arsenal workers launched a Bolshevik insurrection that was suppressed by Ukrainian nationalist forces after three days of street fighting. Legendary sniper Lyudmila Pavlichenko worked here before World War II. Today the historic factory complex serves as a cultural centre.
